Issued on 16 Jul 97, this issue feature the upgrading of Singapore's Housing Development Board
estate. Each of the stamps shows improvement works such as new block facade, landscaped gardens,
children's playground, jogging tracks, covered linkways and etc.
 
30th Anniversary of ASEAN Stamp Issue
In 8 Aug 97, this issue is released to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of ASEAN. The
Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was formed on 8 August 1967 as a show of unity
among the countries in the region.
The stamps features ASEAN's 30 years of co-operation, its culture, communication technology
and tourist attractions. The inverted-dome stamp represent the geographical location of
Southeast Asia.
 
Protect Our Environment Stamp Issue
On 13 Sep 97, this issue is released in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of
Ministry of the Environment.
This year's "Protect Our Environment" stamp release marks the seventh in a series of
Care-for-Nature collector's covers and limited stamp print collections based on the nature
theme that aims to raise awareness and appreciation of nature around us.
 
Singapore-Thailand Joint Issue
  
On World Post Day - 9 Oct 1997, Singapore and Thailand jointly released a set of four stamps
on Shells.
For this set of special joint issue stamps, two Singapore shells and two Thailand shells
are depicted. The Singapore shells are the Nerita chamaeleon Linnaeus, 1758 and Littoraria
melanostoma (Gray,1839) and the Thailand shells are : Drupa morum Roding, 1798 and
Cryptospira elegans (Gmelin, 1791).
